DxO Wins Third Consecutive TIPA Award for Best Imaging Software

TIPA, the Technical Image and Press Association, has awarded DxO its third consecutive win, also its seventh in total. This time, it’s the turn of the excellent DxO PhotoLab 5 RAW editor to take the Best Imaging Software award. This is software that I’ve been using regularly for the past year, and I think the award is well deserved.

TIPA announced that the award was for “more nuanced controls, nimbler image management, and greater speed in handling large-file image processing tasks.” Whilst I agree these are relevant points, and I would complain if they weren’t present, there is something more important. TIPA did also note the exceptional quality delivered by PhotoLab’s DeepPRIME engine in denoising and demosaicing files. And that for me is the knockout feature of PhotoLab 5.

PhotoLab produces excellent image quality, not only in the detail it can extract from a RAW file but also the optical corrections it can apply. The result is a top-quality starting image on which to apply further processing. The only other RAW converter that comes close to achieving this type of image quality for me, is Capture One.

You can learn more about PhotoLab 5 in this review article I published in October 2021. But since then, DxO has released PhotoLab 6 with several new, powerful features delivering improved image quality. You can learn more about these in my recent review of PhotoLab 6.

I can imagine there may well be a fourth consecutive award next year.
