Lenscraft in Focus November 2020 Newsletter
Welcome to the Lenscraft in Focus November 2020 newsletter.
This past month has seen me buy a new camera and it’s not a Fuji. After testing out the new DxO PhotoLab software (I have more on this later in the newsletter) I opted for a Panasonic G9 micro 43 camera. Odd really because it was the thought of a full-frame camera that had me considering a new camera. In the end, it was the size, weight, image quality and ergonomics of the G9 that made my decision (along with the performance of DxO PhotoLab).
But just in case you were wondering, I haven’t dropped Fuji. The XT3 is still in use when I go out on a shoot. But the Panasonic G9 is a joy to use and reminds me how much I love landscape photography and getting out into the hills. Here’s an early shot from the new G9 and I’ll have more to share in future newsletters.
I hope you enjoy this month’s newsletter.
From Around the Web
This month, I’ve discovered a few things that you might find useful or interesting.
An Interesting Short Film – Ansel Adams
“What can Ansel Adams’s enduring photography teach us in the age of Instagram?”. Whilst this is a YouTube video, it feels more like a short documentary. I don’t know if it teaches us anything, but it’s well made and an enjoyable watch.
Free LUTS from On1
The other day I was pre-ordering the upgrade to On1 2021. I hate pre-ordering but there was a reasonable discount, so I decided to take the saving. Then whilst I was on the On1 site, I noticed they had some free LUTs to download and use.
If you like to use LUTs with your photography here’s the link
Inspirational Photography – Mark Harvey
I’m not really one for wildlife photography but recently I saw a photo that made me search out the photographer’s website. It featured a bird in flight and was by the fine art photographer Mark Harvey. I almost included him as this month’s “Photographers You May Not Know” section, even though his work isn’t landscape.
The image that caught my attention was “Blue Tit 3” which you can find on this page https://shop.mark-harvey.com/collections/in-flight. I also read the FAQ section of the site but noticed he didn’t answer the question everyone will be asking. How on earth did you capture such high quality, sharp images of birds in flight.
Photographers You May Not Know – Marco Grassi
If you like good mountain photography you should look at the portfolio of Marco Grassi. I first came across Marco on Instagram where he has a sizeable following. His Instagram work is good, but his website is stunning. I won’t say any more other than be sure to look at the South America and Personal Favourites portfolios.

Affinity Photo How To
I’m hard at work writing my (frequently requested) follow up Affinity Photo book. Thank you for all your suggestions of problems and questions to answer. I’m including as many as I can within the different chapters. Each chapter looks at a different “how to” question but then delves deep into that subject. This isn’t just another superficial questions and answers book. There is depth in the information and a lot of links between the different topics. Probably more so that you might expect. This will be a valuable book for Affinity Photo users across different skill levels.
I haven’t finalised the release date but hope to have it out before Christmas (all being well).
Until next month stay safe.
