Learn Affinity Photo
Affinity Photo is an excellent photo editor that can replace Adobe Photoshop. But like Photoshop, it has a steep learning curve that can make it difficult to understand, especially if you aren’t very confident with computers. To help you learn and extend your Affinity Photo skills I have two books:
Essential Affinity Photo 2
Essential Affinity Photo 2 assumes you are a novice using Affinity Photo. It won’t try to teach you every tool in the software, in fact it doesn’t cover many of the features. Instead, it focusses on what’s important when learning Affinity Photo. It will explain what’s essential to know and ignore what you don’t need, to minimise the risk of becoming confused.
If you are new to Affinity Photo, start with “Essential Affinity Photo 2“.
Affinity Photo How To
When you know the basics of using Affinity Photo and feel you are ready to expand your skills, read Affinity Photo How To. I wrote this book based on feedback, requests and questions raised by users. But the book goes well beyond providing answers to questions. Each answer is a self-contained chapter providing valuable supporting information. Additionally, the chapters are structured to build on each other and expand your understanding of Affinity Photo.
Extend your skills using “Affinity Photo How To“.
Learn The Nik Collection
The Nik Collection is a comprehensive set of plug-ins to extend the capabilities of Photoshop, Lightroom and Affinity Photo. They save time and make photo editing in these applications much easier. To help you master the plugins and get the most from these amazing tools I have developed a series of learning resources for beginners and experienced users alike.
Please ensure you select the correct version of the book to match your version of the Nik Collection. As a reminder:
Nik Collection 4 Updates
- Nik Viveza 3
- Nik Silver Efex Pro 3
Nik Collection 5 Updates
- Nik Color Efex Pro 5
- Nik Analog Efex 3

Learn Adobe Photoshop
Adobe Photoshop is a huge program that’s notoriously difficult to learn. Or is it?
In 2003, after struggling myself for several years to learn photoshop, I realised something very important. You don’t need to learn everything. Instead, there are a few basic features and concepts at the heart of the software. When you understand these, everything falls into place.
Unfortunately most of the books you read over complicate these features. Or, they include too much irrelevant information that prevents you from understanding. That’s why I wrote Essential Adobe Photoshop CC.
Beginners
If you are new to Adobe Photoshop, or you are finding it a struggle to use, start with my “Essential Adobe Photoshop CC” book. It’s practical and will provide what you need to know in an easy-to-access format.
Intermediate Users
If you feel confident that you know the basics of Photoshop and want to extend your skills, these books and courses will help.

Learn Adobe Lightroom
Many photographers who struggle to learn Photoshop prefer instead to edit images in Lightroom. They find the tools there easier to use, allowing them to produce good results. But do they produce the best results? My Lightroom books and courses are for beginning and intermediate-level users of Adobe Lightroom Classic who want to get the most from the software.
Editing Photography in Lightroom
These resources are for you if you want to know how to produce the best results possible when editing images in Adobe Lightroom:
Organising Photography in Lightroom
These resources will help you to organise your photography using Adobe Lightroom:
- Adobe Lightroom CC: Mastering the Lightroom Library Module book
- The Easy Way to an Organised Photo Library book

Learn Landscape Photography
If you are interested in landscape photography, I’m sure you will have read one or more of the popular books on the subject. But what do you do after following the advice that they give? How can you improve your photography so you are confident each trip out will yield more good images? This is the problem professional landscape photographers have solved.
Professionals need each trip out to pay for itself, and so there are specific strategies they use to achieve this. They take a different, but not difficult approach that seems obvious when you know it. This is the approach I share in my book “Landscape Photography: Shoot Like a Pro” and which you can apply whether you are a beginner or experienced photographer.
